About Your Neighborhood Association
The Pine Hills Neighborhood Association (PHNA) comprises a group of your dedicated

Hills one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Atlanta. Among the issues that the
PHNA handles:

of Atlanta and “R-85” in DeKalb County)
- Ensuring Pine Hills' security through a strong relationship with the Atlanta Police
Department and privately sponsored security patrols
- Monitoring changes in traffic patterns that will affect Pine Hills residents, such
as the I-85/GA400 interchange project
- Staying abreast of developments that affect Atlanta Public Schools, including potential
redistricting decisions
- Maintaining our local park, Shady Valley Park, through relationships with the City
of Atlanta
- Communicating neighborhood events and important information that affects Pine Hills
and its residents
- Recording the history of Pine Hills
- Helping to develop a sense of community through special events, such as the annual
Yard Sale and Halloween parties

APS Redistricting Proposals Adversely Affect Pine Hills!
At a meeting at North Atlanta High School this week, Atlanta Public Schools unveiled
four proposals aimed at redistricting the school system. You can view the related
documents on APS's Web site: http://www.atlantapublicschools.us/Page/413.
All proposals:
- Remove Pine Hills from the Sarah Smith district and into Garden Hills;
- Remove Pine Hills from Sutton Middle School, an International Baccalaureate school,
into a new non-IB certified school to be built in south Buckhead/Morningside;
- Send Pine Hills students to a 9th grade academy to be housed at the current Sutton
Middle School location;
- Send Pine Hills students to the new North Atlanta High School to be built on the
northwest Fulton/Cobb county border.
For homeowners who purchased houses specifically to be in the Sarah Smith district,
these options almost certainly present a threat to property values. Consequently,
even if you have no children currently attending APS, you will be affected by the
decisions made by the district.
According to our school board representative, Nancy Meister (nmeister@atlanta.k12.ga.us),
the plan is in the preliminary stages and subsequent changes will likely be made
based on community input.
Therefore, it is vital that you take the time to :
- Carefully review the options and maps on APS' Web site.
- Complete the APS feedback form voicing your opinion on the proposed changes before
December 16: . Note: this form does not give you a "none of the above" option for
the choices presented. It is more important that you complete the open-ended questions
on the second page of the survey.
- "Like" the new Facebook page Sarah Smith and Sutton Redistricting to stay up to date
and communicate with your neighbors.
- Attend future meetings and voice your opinion at them. We'll keep you posted on dates,
locations and times. Also periodically check the APS web site, Sarah Smith and Sutton
Web sites for this information.
