Sidewalk Work Continues on West Roxboro Road!

If you would like to meet with the field engineer, call DaNita Ogandaga (Community Affairs Assistant) to schedule your appointment (404-330-6739). Pine Hills Neighborhood Association Murray Forbes, President (404-233-7487).

Telephone Scam!
Neighbors have been receiving telephone calls recently an individual identifying himself as an AT&T Service technician who was conducting a test on telephone lines. He stated that to complete the test you should touch
nine(9), zero(0), the pound sign (#), and then hang up.

Luckily, the neighbors who alerted us to this situation was
suspicious and refused.

Upon contacting the telephone company, we learned that by pushing
90#, you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone
line, which enables them to place long distance calls billed to your
home phone number.

Apparently, this scam has been originating from many
local jails/prisons. This information has been confirmed with Verizon, UCB
Telecom,Pacific Bell, MCI, Bell Atlantic and GTE. Please beware.

DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE.

Lenox Square Substation
The Lenox Square substation location affords a spacious meeting room not only for the CAC, but provides a meeting room which community and civic groups can use with advance notice. Arrangements can be made by calling the substation at 404-467-8061. That number also gives citizens another place to call for reporting crime.

The new site is conveniently located almost in the center of the ground floor of Lenox Square facing Lenox Road and is easily located with its prominent “Atlanta Police” signage.

New Unit Cracks Down On Liquor Violations
Following past violence in Buckhead, a special unit on liquor violations has made a large number of cases against establishments for selling liquor to minors. The increased enforcement continues with good results.

Detective Don Haff of the robbery division was the featured speaker at the November meeting of the Citizens Committee at Zone Two (northside) of the Atlanta Police Department. Some of the recommendations he made:

  • Never admit a stranger into the house (offer to make a phone call for them).
  • Always lock your car; a stolen car is one concern, but another is identity theft involving documents found in the car.
  • Have a highly visible number on your mailbox so your house can be quickly located by police in an emergency.

Incidentally, detective Haff was part of the Pine Hills Security staff at one time.

TIPS FOR AVOIDING MAIL THEFT

Pine Hills has lowest crime rate in Atlanta and enjoys the reputation of being one of its safest neighborhoods. A major reason for this is the Pine Hills Security patrol. Staffed by officers and detectives of the Atlanta Police Department, it is funded by the dues of civic-minded members of the community. Supporters of the security program are provided with a daily check of their property when they are out of town.
